This week we learned about link building to get more back links to your website because this is one of the best ways to improve your SEO. A back link is a link from another website that directs people to your site. The more back links you have, the better your SEO ranking. But there's a few caveats. In order for a back link to be helpful, it has to be high quality. Some signs of a high quality link are:

  • Relevant
  • Link to trusted authority sites
  • They direct traffic
  • Unique (not spammy, not just all linking to the same thing etc)
  • Non-reciprocal (other site doesn’t link back to you)
  • Link to social media

Some ideas to generate back links are:

  • Make useful infographics
  • Find broken links and replace with your content (you have to make content that fulfills the same need, then ask the website owner to replace the broken link with yours)
  • Guest blogging from high-quality (authority) blogs
  • testimonials/reviews (ask websites if you can leave a review and link it back to your site)
  • Donations and sponsorships (pay money to a charity site that will then link to your site)

The next thing we did was learn how to use GA4 with the demo thing. This was one of the most aggravating assignments I've ever completed. What a pointless endeavor. Having to scour this incredibly slow website for tiny nuggets of information that I will never in my entire life need to find for my own website. Why on earth would I need to know how many sessions for my site came from a google Pixel, but not a Pixel XL? Completely pointless. What a waste of my valuable time on the week of finals. I understand wanting to teach us how to utilize a valuable tool like GA4, but this is not the way to do that.
